Oriel
The ‘Oriel’ scheme is a redevelopment project designed by Powell Dobson Architects in consultation with the Design Commission for Wales. It consists of 41 affordable, energy-efficient homes constructed above Aberafan’s shopping centre in Port Talbot and forms part of a wider £35m investment programme to build new homes in the area, improve existing properties, provide space for new businesses and create new transport and communication links. The contract was undertaken by Hacer Developments in partnership with Pobl Group, formerly Gwalia, with Llanelli-based Atcost Windows (Wales) Ltd winning the contract to manufacture and install the glazing.

60 mm Casement Window System
Light and airy
Kestrel Aluminium Systems worked closely with Atcost Windows (Wales) Ltd to ensure the successful delivery of their part of the redevelopment project. The contract saw the installation of the Kestrel 60 mm casement window system with polyamide thermal breaks. Used in conjunction with low U value double glazed units, the homeowners can be sure that their new, modern homes are safe, secure and energy efficient. Additionally, large, fixed light windows, dual-colour powder coated in a range of RAL colours, were included to striking effect.
Stunning façade
The Kestrel curtain walling system was specified for the entrance to the building. The system is zone drained and fabricated as a ladder frame system, with the individual panels fabricated separately to assist with ease of transportation, then constructed on site. Kestrel thermal commercial door systems were also installed. These are DDA compliant, PAS24 accredited with internal beads for added security, and designed for high traffic footfall with slimline profiles that minimise sight lines. Together, these systems created an impressive entrance to the building that is secure, thermally efficient and aesthetically pleasing.
