Project - Air Ambulance Headquarters
Wales Air Ambulance have a new headquarters with a purpose built office bringing the charity and the airbase together. Local aluminium fabricators and installers Atcost Windows won the contract to supply and fit all the glazing products throughout the building with the help of Kestrel Aluminium Systems.
.
The Challenge
A bold design had been chosen for the new headquarters and Atcost Windows were required to supply a glazing system that was not only thermally efficient, but could also be specified in colour and design options. For this Atcost Windows turned to their trusted supplier Kestrel Aluminium Systems.
.
The Solution
The Kestrel Aluminium Systems estimating department ran the quote through the in-house software and based on the specification provided specified the use of Curtain Walling, the 60mm Window System, Thermal Framing and the Thermal Commercial Door.
The Kestrel Aluminium Systems’ Curtain Walling system allows screens of up to 20m wide to be built on site and to be easily installed. Powder coated grey both the 100mm and 125mm Curtain Walling profiles were used to create the impressive frontage on the purpose built headquarters and to glaze the common areas and meeting rooms maximising the natural light into the building.
To ensure the building is thermally efficient, Atcost Windows installed the Kestrel Aluminium Systems’ 60mm Window, Thermal Framing and Thermal Commercial Door systems. As the Air Ambulance headquarters is a public building it was important that the products installed were document L compliant.
Utilising the thermal ramp threshold on the entrance doors ensured the doors were DDA compliant as well as being thermally efficient. The Kestrel Aluminium Systems’ Thermal Commercial Door has been rigorously tested to meet PAS 24 security standards and achieves U-Values of 1.8W/m2k.
Opening vents were also specified for the offices and Atcost Windows opted to install the Kestrel Aluminium Systems’ 60mm Window Suite. Used throughout the window suite offers commonality of design with the door and framing system utilising the same bead to achieve a consistent overall design. Installed with restrictor hinges meet the required specification and to achieve U-Values of 1.6W/m2k.
The Benefits
Area Sales Manager John Treagust met Atcost Windows on site during the installation process “We enjoy seeing our customers working on projects of this scale where a mix of the Kestrel product range is utilised and we are pleased that Atcost Windows felt they could rely on us to offer a suitable product and continued support throughout the project.”
Kestrel Aluminium Systems offered a complete design service for the project, working closely with the architect, contractor and manufacturer to achieve the most efficient and cost effective design. There were also time restraints, and Kestrel Aluminium Systems was able to offer a faster turnaround time of powder coated materials than most of our competitors. We typically supply painted profiles within 5 working days which allowed for a quick manufacturing and installation time.
