Project - Crowland Cranes

Leicester based fabricators SB Aluminium Services were key to the success of the transformation of the offices of Crowland Cranes in Peterborough. The makeover of the business premises was driven by the desire to create a modern and striking frontage to the offices. SB Aluminium stepped in to assist the owner with this project.

The Challenge

The Client specified that the existing building should be brought up to date without causing too much structural disruption, changing the frontage from brickwork to a modern aesthetic to match the forward thinking business. Curtain Walling was deemed the perfect solution to facilitate this.

SB Aluminium Services turned to their trusted supplier Kestrel Aluminium Systems to supply all the systems for this project.

The Solution

SB Aluminium performed a complete site survey and established that the ground level sloped from left to right. In order to create a level base a concrete plinth was laid for the brand new frames to sit on. The stick frame 100mm curtain walling was installed on top of a 175mm thermally efficient extruded cill which created a clean line at the bottom of the building.

The upvc windows were replaced with thermally efficient polyamide dual colour windows, which allowed the exterior of the building to be a consistent design and colour whilst the internal frame was specified as white ensuring that the offices remain bright and light. All the windows were top hung to allow for ventilation whilst restricted hinges ensures the offices are safe and secure.

The original upvc entrance doors were replaced with robust aluminium doors with small fixed side panels to maximise natural light into the building. Striking handles were added to the doors to further enhance the new look of the offices.

The Benefits

The benefits of this project are wide reaching, the end client is thrilled with the new look of the business premises and the installation has created the first impression he was looking for. The refurbishment also improves the surrounding area and creates an impressive facility for both employees and customers.

Working to tight timescales SB Aluminium Services could rely of Kestrel to supply the material on time to allow them to fulfil their promise to the client. Kestrel and SB Aluminium liaised during the order process to ensure they had the material when they needed it.

SB Aluminium used the Kestrel V6 estimating software to design and cost the project, ensuring only material required was ordered to keep costs down and avoid material wastage. The estimating software also provided SB with the cutting lists and glass sizes which could be passed to relevant third parties.

Sales Manager, John Treagust, commented “It is incredible to see the impact projects like this have on existing buildings. This scheme demonstrates the versatility of our systems and what can be achieved, we are thrilled to see so many of our systems being utilised on this project.”
